           The Center for Research and Eco-Metallurgical Expertise from University Politehnica of Bucharest (UPB – ECOMET) was founded in 2001 and has as its object multidisciplinary research in the field of advanced materials and environmental protection. The Center has a state-of-the-art research infrastructure that allows for laboratory tests for determining material characteristics and processes: Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) with EDS FEI QUANTA 450 FEG for determining material properties; Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) – NANONICS IMAGING LTD, MultiView 4000SPM / NSOM for topography study; X-ray diffractometer (XRD) PANalytical X’Pert PRO MPD for crystallinity analysis; Bruker AXS S8 Tiger X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometer for quantitative analysis of solid and liquid samples; High Resolution Continuous Atomic Absorption Spectrometer ContrAA 800D AnalyticJena, for detection of metallic ions in solutions; HPLC with MS / MS Triple Quadrupol LC / MS 6110 Agilent quadrupole, for detection of organic compounds; Zetasizer NanoZSP for determining particle size and potential at zero point; FTIR Interspec 200-X FTIR spectrometer for qualitative analysis, etc. All research infrastructure is available at and—UPB. The competence of the laboratory has been demonstrated also by the accreditation obtained according to the requirements of SR EN ISO / CEI 17025: 2005 regarding the competence of performing laboratory tests, RENAR certificate no. LI 1142. Also, the quality of research services with economic agents is proven through the implementation of the integrated quality-environment-health system, according to SR EN ISO 9001: 2008, SR EN ISO 14001: 2005, SR OHSAS 18001: 2008, that can be observed at

          The main areas of competence are:

  1. Eco-nanotechnologies and advanced materials, with the main objectives: synthesis of oxidic nanomaterials (Fe2O3, Fe3O4, ZnO, TiO2) and metal (Ag), elaboration of advanced materials and determination of mechanical properties of special alloys, and their complex characterization (SEM, AFM, XRD).
  2. Environmental expertise, including wastewater and surface water analyzes for degradation of Fe, Cu, Cd, Ni, Zn, Pb (RENAR accreditation), waste and leachate, soil indicators, innovative materials testing used for removal of target pollutants (heavy metals, compounds organic);
  3. Metallic material expertise, by performing analyzes, tests and investigations to assess the technical condition of industrial equipment (respecting the ISCIR Technical Prescriptions), the assessment of the safe life of industrial equipment, diagnostics and technical expertise, post-crash technical analysis.

           An important stage in the development of the Center was the winning and implementing of projects financed from structural funds (POSDRU / 156 / 1.2 / G / 136776/2014, POSCCE ID 1799/2015, POC ID: P_36_611 / 107066 Contract No. 145 / 26.10 .2016, POC ID P_37_649, Contract No. 49 / 05.09.2016), which allowed the creation of a complex research infrastructure necessary for the development of new technologies, products and services.
